Felsengarten flowers
Felsengarten is an historic summer house on Lewis Hill Road in Bethlehem, NH. The house was built between 1896 and 1900, and was the summer residence of German-American conductor Theodore Thomas and his wife Rose Fay. A fine woodworker/builder friend of mine asked me to meet with the then owners of this home, to create several stained and sand blasted glass panels. The oval is of a painted trillium, which was one of the first times I had attempted painting in this way. The veins on the leaves were accomplished with sandblasting. Over the front entrance are a series of wildflowers that I sandblasted onto beveled glass diamonds, and surrounded them with glass that resembles frost on windows. It was enjoyable to research how wildflowers grow in nature, and then how to transfer those images into glass. The owners were delighted!
