Jean's Window
Jean Brugger is a friend who I met in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua in 1998, and who I visited each time I returned. She lived in a home on a hill overlooking the bay of Sjds, and her windows got wonderful light from the setting sun. She asked me to make her a panel, and gave me a free hand in designing it. The window shown here is the result, and it depicts a hummingbird visiting several sacuanjoche flowers; the sacuanjoche or plumeria is the national flower of Nicaragua. The flowers were fused and painted and the remaining pieces were assembled with copper foil. Jean returned to the US in 2021 and before leaving, she gave this panel to Alvaro Novoa, the Director of Programs at the Fundacion A. Jean Brugger , a scholarship program started by Jean in 2000. This foundation is dear to my heart, and I have continued to assist many young people from Sjds attend university since 2000.
